Fire department celebrates 100th birthday during muster

MARS HILL, Maine — Results from the Aroostook County Firemen‘s Muster held at Central Aroostook High School — as part of the Mars Hill Fire Department’s 100th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, Aug. 6 — have been tallied, with several departments taking home awards.

Honorees at this year’s event include:

• Best Auxiliary Unit, Best Marching Unit and Best Fire-Ready Apparatus — Van Buren;

• Best Attendance — Easton;

• Best Antique Equipment — Bridgewater;

• Dry line results: First, Van Buren; second, Bridgewater; and third, Easton Team 2;

• Wet line results: First, Bridgewater; second, Van Buren; and third, Washburn;

• Sprinkler results: First, Van Buren; second, Forestry; and third, Bridgewater;

• Water ball results: First, Caribou; Second, Washburn; and third, Bridgewater;

This year the Sportsmanship Award went to the Maine Forestry team.

Best Over-All honors went to Van Buren, whose crew took home the traveling trophy and bragging rights for the next year.

Teams were on hand for the muster from: Bridgewater, Caribou, Easton (two teams), Forestry, North Lakes, Van Buren and Washburn. Not that there was much rivalry going on, but Van Buren is in everyone’s sights for next year’s competition.
