CARIBOU — Randy Hebert, formerly of Caribou and now residing in Raleigh, NC, won a tiebreaker with Ralph Michaud of Presque Isle, to capture the 28th Annual Cary Classic Benefit Golf Tournament, held at the Caribou Country Club earlier this month. Hebert and defending champion Michaud were tied with a 36-hole gross score of 150, before Hebert pared the tie-breaking hole to win.

The 28th Annual Cary Classic Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Jefferson Cary Foundation, (JCF), and Time Warner Cable, held earlier this month at the Caribou Country Club, ended with exciting playoff finishes for both the men’s and women’s overall tournament champions. Overall Men’s Winner went to Randy Hebert, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Caribou. Randy won a playoff match with defending champion, Ralph Michaud of Fort Fairfield. The Overall Women’s Winner was Emily Jose of Caribou. Emily won a playoff round with last year’s Cary Classic Winner Betty Deveau of Caribou. Emily also won the 26th Annual Cary Classic in 2009. The women’s champion was Emily Jose of Caribou, who also won a tiebreaker with defending tournament champion Betty Deveau of Caribou. Jose and Deveau were tied with a gross score of 167 after 36 holes, before Jose parred the tie-breaking hole with a 30-foot putt.
The tourney serves as the largest fundraising event for the Jefferson Cary Foundation. With nearly 90 golfers participating this year, the tournament raised just over $20,000 to benefit various projects at Cary Medical Center.

The winner of the longest drive for the men was Brent Hatchard and for the women was Dr. Linda Chabrier. The winner of the closest to the pin for the men was David Dubois and for the women was Chabrier.
