From the Bunkers: Making memories

Life’s memories are filled with special moments or events and are stored forever — many such special moments are remembered from the clubhouse at the Houlton Community Golf Course — what a wonderful spot for that special occasion in your life, whether it be a planned party, special birthday or a wedding reception.
I will never forget that sunny Saturday afternoon some 60 years ago when Club Champion Joe MacKay and Polly (Grant) held their wedding reception in the spacious clubhouse with the veranda overlooking Nickerson Lake — also many social evenings with meals served from the large kitchen — Rod Palmer’s fine music being played and dancing near the large fireplace (no one would ever accuse me of being a Fred Astaire).
I guess the point I am trying to make is that any person or group can take advantage of the facilities at the golf course clubhouse. You do not have to be a member or a golfer to build your own memory treasure of that special occasion. For more information, call the Houlton Community Golf Course at 532-2662.
The Men’s Twilight League play heading into the stretch finds Mike Fleming/Steve Henderson leading the Shanksville Duffers, while Marty Bouchard/Mike Fogarty are ahead in the Hack Attack Division and Gabe Goodwin/Daniel Peabody are on top in the Chili Dippers. All of the leaders have vey slim margins so the lead could change at any time.
As for the delightful ladies, league play of July 19 finds Misty Marino, first, and Linda Holmes, second, in Division A; a tie in Division B to Marion Collins, Jane York and Brittany Benn; Jane Phipps, first, and Kerry Putnam, second, in the C Division and Betty Anderson, first, and Mary Grant, second, in the D Division.
Houlton golf members had a good group of players in last weekend’s Spudland Open at Presque Isle. As expected, Porter Gervais finished among the leaders in fourth place. Again, Barry Madore was a fine host and many players are anticipating our September Member-Guest Tournament.
