Club puts final touches to Little Farmer’s Hands project
EASTON NEWS
by Debbie Smith
Members of the Easton Kiwanis Club recently met at the Presque Isle fairgrounds for pizza and strawberries and cream, for their supper.
After the meal the members turned out and each picked a job to do: cleaning, painting, cutting stickers, filling plastic bags with alpaca hair and whatever else needed to be done to help Kiwanian Jessica Blackstone with her project, “Little Farmer’s Hands.”
This is an exciting new project and will open for the first time at the Northern Maine Fair starting July 29th, where there will be a chicken barn, a cow barn and several farm games to be enjoyed by the young and young-at-heart.
President Mike Allen reported on the success the Club experienced with their fund-raising cookout for the Ride Across America horseback riders during the Potato Blossom Festival weekend. They fed 80 people expecting to only feed half that much. He encouraged members to turn out to help man the Horse Racing Food Booth and the Show Ring Food Booth at the Northern Maine Fair starting on July 29th and on August 3rd, the Horseman’s Banquet at 4 p.m.
Those helping with the “Little Farmer’s Hands” project on July 19 were Mike and Loris Allen, Richard and Jean Kneeland, Bernard Hussey, Mike Cyr, Irene DaFonte, Eldora Carter, Barbara and Doug Blackstone and their little granddaughter, Chloe, whose parents had just presented her with a brand new baby sister Jessica.
Pattee-Page Unit to gather
The Pattee-Page Unit No. 187 American Legion Auxiliary will be holding their first meeting in many months on Monday, Aug. 1st at 7 p.m. at the apartment of Marjorie Corey in the Windemere Apartments, West Ridge Road, Building no. 2, Apt. 3.
Because of the lack of active members, the Unit has not been able to carry on those activities that they should be working on. The purpose of this Auxiliary is to help and uphold the American Legion and all returning veterans. If you are eligible through parents, husband, sister or brother, please give this a thought. The Auxiliary needs new blood if it is to continue.
