Heidi Graham and family express their appreciation
People traveled near and far to support Heidi Graham, of Mapleton, and her family at a benefit supper and silent auction held Saturday, July 9 at the Mapleton Lions Hall. Graham has been diagnosed with breast cancer and she and her family were more than overwhelmed with the effort and support that was given.
The evening included a spaghetti supper, prepared and served by members of the Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp program and other friends of Graham’s family, with donations from local businesses, a silent auction organized by colleagues of Graham at Northern Maine Community College, music playing by Dusty’s Jamboree, and even three haircuts took place during the event.
More than 600 people were in attendance throughout the evening that included close friends, family, friends of Graham’s three children, Jacob, Dusty and Mandy, colleagues of Graham’s husband, Tim, past and current co-workers of Graham, along with other community members.
Nearly 125 items were donated to the silent auction and ranged anywhere from handcrafted items, gift baskets, Boston Red Sox tickets, and anywhere in between. Donations came from faculty, staff and students of NMCC, along with area businesses, friends and family who joined the efforts.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the people who showed support to me and my family during the benefit supper,” said Graham. “Your kindness during this difficult time in my life means more than words could ever say. I am very fortunate to know such wonderful and caring people. I am so very appreciative of all the support from the community, friends and family.”
Prior to the benefit supper, a goal was set by colleagues of Graham at NMCC that if a specific amount of money was raised to give as their contribution to Graham and her family, then three senior management leaders would take part in shaving their heads at the supper to show their support and to let Graham know she is not alone in the battle.
The event was a huge success and Graham and her family extend their deep appreciation of the support, thoughts, and prayers from everyone during the benefit and those that came prior to and after the dinner.
