Foundation Quilt Raffle raises $3,280

HOULTON — The Fourth of July became a very special day for Virginia Hodge of Middletown, Conn. when the afternoon drawing for the Health Services Foundation quilt raffle was held at Daniel’s Florist.
Even better was the fact that Hodge was in Houlton visiting her sister Barbara Stevens of Linneus for the holiday. And Jo Ann Dunphy, who was part of a very special group of individuals who worked hard on the raffle, was able to hand deliver the quilt to her.
“There were a few tears being shed, as it was an emotional moment when the quilt was received,” said Elizabeth Dulin, executive director for the Foundation. “Virginia is not only a cancer survivor, but she is also a quilter, making this even more special for her.”

The raffle raised an incredible total of  $3,280 for the Foundation’s ongoing digital mammography campaign.
“This beautiful quilt was a very special event to assist Foundation’s efforts to purchase a GE Senographe Care Full-Field Digital Mammography System for Houlton Regional Hospital, to fight breast cancer at the local level,” Dulin said.
“We extend very special thanks to Jo Ann Dunphy, Pam Hocking, Peggy Crane, Kim Hazlett, Lisa Perfitt, all the generous ticket buyers and outlets for selling tickets in making this event so successful. The committee individuals involved have great passion for bringing this latest in digital mammography equipment to Houlton Regional in its effort to provide state-of-the-art digital mammography screenings.”
Many members of the committee are cancer survivors who have their own stories about this disease.
“They are so generous in giving back to the community by sharing their knowledge, and joining the Foundation’s efforts to be sure our healthcare providers have the necessary means to address this healthcare issue,” Dulin said. “They know how vitally important it is that Houlton Regional have the latest technology and bring digital mammography screenings to our hospital.”
