Aroostook Times
Appointment — Miss Maud Astle, daughter of A.E. Astle has been appointed assistant teacher of elocution at Bates College during 1911-12, her senior year.
Winning title — “The Dunn Furniture Block” was the winning title in the competition for a name for the new block of the Dunn Furniture Company recently advertised by them. Ransford Mason of Houlton, was the winner, securing the Laa Zee couch hammock offered as a prize.

Oakfield — Little Ellen Goodall, 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Goodall of Oakfield owes her life to the fact that boys are still boys and prefer “goin fishin’” to working on the farm. A quick moving current swept the little girl off her feet while wading and carried her downstream where 16-year-old Ivan Morton was fishing. Morton reacted quickly and pulled the tot to safety.
Houlton Pioneer Times 1936 File PhotoUNITED IN MARRIAGE — Miss Marjorie Turner and Mr. Donald Nelder were united in marriage in a June ceremony. She was mistily beautiful in a white satin wedding gown with a long veil, with cap arrangement, trimmed with orange blossoms.
Danforth — Plans for Danforth Centennial Week are going forward and promises to be one of the biggest events of its kind in Eastern Maine.
Monticello — Mr. and Mrs. Merland Carson were tendered an old fashioned serenade at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Almon Little. A large number of friends and relatives were present. She was presented with several nice gifts. A generous treat of candy, peanuts and cigars was provided for all present.

Supermarket — Title clearance of the former Atlas Plywood lot is holding up final sale of the land to the Milliken Tomilson Company of Portland who plan to erect a modern supermarket just across the North Street bridge.
Wally’s World — The whole world passed through Houlton last Friday on wheels. Lots and lots of wheels. There were 275 house trailers of identical make, Airstream. One after another from all over the world, they came streaming through Houlton after rendezvousing all week long in Skowhegan on their way to Island Park in Woodstock.
Twilight Tilt — Gary Severson and Charles Berry won the league tourney at the Houlton Country Club by six points. Severson played with an 11 point handicap and Berry’s was 25.

Monticello — Bernie and Barbara Swimm hosted an outdoor barbecue at their home Saturday evening. Special music was provided by the Rafford Brothers of Caribou.
New-comer — Ruby Way has purchased a home located at 130 Main Street. A former resident of Los Angeles she is looking forward to living in the safe community of Houlton.
Houlton Grange — An open house was held to recognize the longtime service of the secretary, Virginia Sherman.
Home Economics award — Dianne Hardy was presented with the Home Economic Achievement Award during Last Chapel exercises at Houlton High School by Vera Hutchinson, head of the Home Economics Department.
