Land Speed Racing coming to Loring
Land speed racing is coming back to Loring and this year the event will also highlight the good work of an organization which assists wounded armed services members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Racing on the runway at the former air force base will be on Saturday, July 16, but on Thursday, July 14 there will be an event at the Aroostook Centre Mall to promote the Wounded Warrior Project and the upcoming races.
From 10 a.m. until close Greg Neal, of TLN Motorsports, and Mike Roman will be near the food court with their motorcycle and car to show off their record-setting vehicles, but also to discuss what the Wounded Warrior program does for veterans.

LAND SPEED RACING — 9 time AMA world champ Ricky Gadson, shown here at last year’s Loring event, is bringing five different motorcycles to northern Maine this coming weekend.
According to Neal TLN Motorsports is a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project whose mission is to honor and empower wounded members of the armed services. WWP began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from the middle east, took action to help others in need. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist veterans as they recover and transition back to back to back to back to civilian life. Neal adds TLN Motorsports is very proud to carry the Wounded Warrior Project emblem on its race vehicles and to spread the word about the needs of our returning heroes.
The Loring Timing Association runs Land Speed Racing at the Loring Commerce Centre. The runway at Loring is one of only four places in the world to hold land speed trials, which leads to more than 150 blazing fast cars and motorcycles coming to northern Maine.
The event schedule is tech inspections on Friday, July 15, followed by time trials on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. The rain date is Monday. Admission for the weekend is $10.
