With the temperatures well into the high 80s, the humidity making it feel even warmer, Jessica Butler, daughter of Kay and Curtis Butler, and her younger cousin, Madison Harris, the daughter of Amanda Cloney and Ritchie Harris, decided it might just be a good time to open up a lemonade stand.

Madison Harris, 6, left and Jessica Butler, 11, both of Caribou, taking advantage of the recent warm and humid summer afternoons, decided to set up their lemonade (and grape drink) stand, in an attempt to quench the thirsts of passing motorists and to raise money for Jessica’s Dad, Curtis, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

“I was just thinking about it yesterday,” said Butler, “it was a nice day, so we came out and started. We had a few customers and today we haven’t had any yet, but if we’re lucky, we’ll get our first one soon,” she said swatting at an insect, “and the flies are pretty bad too.”

The two young entrepreneurs weren’t just out to make a bit of summer spending money for themselves, the real plan behind their lemonade (grade drink) stand was to raise funds to help out Jessica’s father, Curtis, who has been diagnosed with stage three metastasis melanoma skin cancer and who will be undergoing treatments in the near future.

“We’re just trying to raising money cause my Dad is out of work,” stated Jessica.

On Saturday, Aug. 13, there will be a benefit dinner/silent auction for Curtis Butler, held at the VFW in Caribou. The time for the event will be announced at a later date.
