The Easton Kiwanis’ Club met for their regular meeting on June 21st, with a barbecue and potluck supper. Eldora Carter said the Blessing and Keith Richardson led the Pledge if Allegiance before the meal.
HELPING HAND — President of the Easton Kiwanis Club, Mike Allen, presents Jessica Blackstone a check for the start up costs for the “ New Little Hands on the Farm Exhibit” — a project that Kiwanian Jessica is happily working on. This will be set up this year at the Northern Maine Fair at Presque Isle.
Club President Mike Allen opened the meeting with the collection of “Sad and Happy Dollars.” He reported that the service club had done well in spite of the poor weather, at the cookout on June 19th at the Pine and Spurs Riding Club Horse Show held in Maple Grove. He said that there were food items left over that can be used at the next fundraiser —the cookouts on Field Days in Easton beginning on Friday, July 8th. He reported that the new grill suffered a broken bolt while being removed from the truck, even before it had been used once. He was sure that it could be repaired before the next fundraiser. There was more discussion about the cookouts that would be held during Easton Field Days.
Esther Richardson reported that the Easton Kiwanis Club Scholarship Award went to Taylor Lawrence this year.
There was a report about the “Ride Across America” with people from other states riding horseback across the country and who would reach this area in time for the Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield.
They reported that they would like to be able to put 100 horses, including their own, in the parade.
There was more discussion on food and other items needed, as well as workers, for other fundraisers held the month of July. More will be decided at their meeting on Tuesday, July 5th.
Those attending were Mike and Loris Allen, Keith and Esther Richardson, Richard and Jean Kneeland, Clair and Eldora Carter, Bernard Hussey, Mike Cyr, Irene DeFonte and Barbara Blackstone.
