CARIBOU — They say that “no good deed goes unnoticed,” and officers with the Caribou Police Department are on the lookout this summer for youths doing good deeds.
Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan announced Monday the implementation of a new program called “Positive Tickets.”
“As part of our community policing efforts in conjunction with Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP), this new program targets the youth in the community, rewarding them for doing good deeds and obeying the law,” Chief Gahagan said.
The rewards for staying out of trouble are pretty cool — being issued a Positive Ticket entitles the bearer to a free small ice cream, courtesy of either Burger Boy or Houlton Farms, both of Caribou. Aside from the sweet treat, Positive Tickets also reward the recipient with praise from the issuing law enforcement officer.
“This program will help kids understand that we as police officers are here to help them and the community,” Chief Gahagan explained. “We want our youngsters to know that we not only look for violators of the law, we notice when someone does good too. With good choices come good rewards.”
Officers will be out in full force this summer, so parents are reminded to encourage their kids to continue the good deeds and obey the law. It may earn them a free ice cream.
