Jacob Soucy of Key Bank rounds third base to score in the second inning.
While pitchers on both sides had trouble finding the strike zone – the Collins team bolstered enough runs to pull out the solid 14-6 victory with a big 2nd inning. On the mound for Collins was Donovan Savage. Savage went just two innings and gave up just one hit. Savage allowed three runs – striking out three. Gabe Massey came in at the bottom of the third and finished up – collecting seven strikeouts and giving up two earned runs for the win.
For S.W. Collins Zach Wright was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Wright went 3 for 4 with a run and RBI. Having a great day at the plate for the Police was Rachel Soucy. Soucy went 2 for 3 with a run and a RBI while Dawson Hebert reached base safely three times safely scoring two runs.
North Stars 21, Shop ‘n Save 20
In Stockholm the North Stars defeated Shop ‘n Save 21-20. The North Stars needed a little Scandinavian luck to put up 21 runs on the 21st of June, the Summer Solstice, to outscore Shop-n-Save by only one run in extra inning play.
Kendra Furber started the game off with a single and later added two more. Leading the North Stars was Devon Chamberland who hit a single, triple, and an in-the-park home run. Josh Quist singled twice and doubled. Noah Hixon singled four times including the game winning walk off single driving in Chamberland. Kennith Thompson and Alex Bouchard each singled twice while Austin Findlen had two doubles. Emily Adler singled in the fourth and then again for a key hit to spark the come-from –behind rally in the sixth. Alex Bouchard, Noah Hixon, and Josh Quist combined for 9 strikeouts.
With the winning run on third base Shop ‘n Save right fielder Tristan Mancos was able to track down a hard hit ball by Austin Findlen sending the game into extra innings with his catch. Trey Taylor kept the Northstar defense busy by crushing the ball five times. Taylor hit two singles, two doubles, and a triple while scoring four times. Tristan Mancos hit two doubles while Alex and Ben Ezzy each singled. Carter Conley doubled while Caleb Brown hit two singles. Parker Deprey managed to score three times on three walks and did a fine job pitching for his first time on the mound.
Sleepers 19, VFW 5
Sleepers played its best game of the season getting contributions from every player.
Offensively, Stewart Curtis hit his first career inside the park home run, Camden Huck had 3 triples and a double, Spenser McDuffie was 4-5 with 2 doubles. In all, 10 of the 11 players scored at least one run on the evening. Defensively, Spenser McDuffie pitched 5 complete innings striking out 8 batters.
For VFW Matt Nadeau was 2-3 with 2 RBI.
S.W. Collins 20, Woodland Eagles 0
Mother Nature gave the Caribou Little League a break just long enough on June 25 to make up a National League rivalry game.
The Woodland Eagles played S.W. Collins for the first time all season – as the Collins team played solid to collect the win 20-0 in a shortened game of four innings. On the mound for Collins was Zach Wright who looked good despite some slippery conditions. Wright got eight strikeouts over three innings allowing no runs and no walks.
The Eagles – having played three games in a four day span – were short on pitching and looked to Ghent Durepo to get some solid innings. Durepo collected five strikeouts while his relief pitcher, Callee McBreairty, struck out one.
Some all around solid play at the plate and base-running put this one away early. The Wright brothers went a combined 4 for 4 with five RBIs and eight runs scored. Donovan Savage also scored four runs while going 2 for 2.
It was a tough day at the plate for Woodland who only saw two batters reach safety all morning. Some solid behind the plate work from Hunter Milliard and Wyatt Taggett highlighted the Eagles day.
