The Houlton Knights football team begins the 2011 season with a non-contact Mini Camp at the Maliseet Field on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
All candidates for junior high and high school teams are asked to attend this very important session. Players are requested to wear shorts, cleats or sneakers and bring water.
The Knights have a large roster this year. The camp will allow the coaches to evaluate prospective candidates for possible positions. The camp will also review fundamentals of the game and introduce newer players to the expectations and requirements of the Knight organization.
The junior high candidates will be combined in drills with the varsity to ensure continuity in the program.
This year has seen an uptick in registrations for the fall sport. To date 42 varsity candidates and 20 junior high candidates have signed up. There are a few openings available for registration and will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parents are welcome to observe. Questions will be answered at the end of the camp.
The preseason begins on Aug. 2 with practices, scrimmages and the annual Jamboree later in the month. Games begin in early September.
If any candidate is unable to attend and has an interest in football, it is important that Head Coach Brian Reynolds (694-0092) or Coach Andy Hay (532-6547) be notified.
