“All the world is a stage and the men and women are but players,” but not in the tee-box at your favorite golf course.
Slow play usually is caused by extra time teeing off. Thursday afternoon at the Houlton Community Golf Course will often find David Moore on the tee with his ball teed up and David stepping away while delivering a speech — when David is doing his interpretation of “Hamlet’s Soliloquy — Dick York and Bob Anderson are patiently waiting while Paul Adams is muttering “David, hit the ball.”
Meanwhile, Rick Goodwin, Kevin McPhee, John Turner, Ray Mailman, Bert Daniels, Frank Dunn, Jerry Adams and Art Nichols, along with others are waiting to tee off.
I rather enjoy David’s “John Barrymore impersonation” as he is very unaware of others’ impatience and does tell funny stories.
So to speed up play, do as Eli Wallach said in a scene from the movie “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” shoot don’t talk.
The Ladies Twilight League play of the day was low gross and low net on June 14 as follows:
Division A: low gross, Harriet Gray and low net, Pam Mailman.
Division B: low gross, Brittany Benn and low net, Kathy Belyea.
Division C: low gross, Betty Anderson and low net, Mary Grant.
A field of 20 ladies played and stayed for dinner.
Don’t forget the Houlton High School alumni class reunion, with a social on July 1 and a scramble on July 2.
