BLAINE — Gardiner “Wes” Beals, 88, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. He was born August 24, 1922, in Blaine, the son of Leo A. and Nellie (Hallowell) Beals.
He attended A.C.I. and was in Future Farmers of America. Wes worked for many years as a butcher and was well respected by his peers. He loved to pick fiddleheads. In later years with his health declining, Wes was in assisted living, but he enjoyed it by singing karaoke at the nursing home and was appreciative of the friends he had there.
A special thank you from the family goes out to Priscilla Smith who was always good to Wes during his stay at the health facility in Mars Hill.
He was a member of the Apostolic Church in Mars Hill.
He leaves behind three daughters: Rhonda Lavoie and her husband, David of Presque Isle, Myra Wilcox and her husband, Richard of Mapleton, and Debbie Beals and her partner, James Shaw of Easton; a brother, Harris Beals of New Jersey; daughter-in-law, Ada Beals of Alabama; eleven grandchildren; a special grandson, Adam Beals; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Ione Dixon.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Bernice P. (Hotham) Beals; a son, Merton; a daughter, Carmenlita Hobbs; four brothers: Cecil, Cleveland, Edwin and Raymond; sister, Velma; and a granddaughter, Carmela Hobbs.
The family also extends a thank you to Activities at the Aroostook Health Center.
A graveside service was conducted 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Tapley Cemetery in Blaine with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
