Tours for the public will be conducted from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Funds are being raised to replace the roof with steel. A portion has already been completed. Any donations are appreciated.
The museum is located in the former Littleton Elementary School that closed in 1999. A group of area residents secured funding to purchase the building in 2001 and it is now filled with memorabilia from family homes and farms in the area. The organization has also built a large barn to house many pieces of equipment and moved one of the last one-room schools in Littleton to the museum property.
The Ross School built in 1872 originally sat on the Ross Ridge Road, approximately four miles from the museum. With the help of Carl Crawford of Houlton the building was moved from the Treston and Ivan Bubar farm to the current site. Since its arrival it has been refurbished and is a popular destination for students visiting the museum.
President Jay Clark is spearheading a fund-raising effort to replace the museum roof. The cost is approximately $60,000. A portion of the roof has already been updated with steel, and it is necessary to complete the project to keep the items within the museum safe from the elements. If anyone would like to donate to this project please contact Clark at 532-7125 or Donato at 538-9007.
