Dana Corbin, Paradis Shop ‘N Save store manager in Caribou presents Mark Jones, principal at the Caribou High School with a check for $1,480, realized through the school accumulating the highest amount of dollars through the Hannaford Helps School Program.
“On behalf of Paradis Shop ‘N Save, it gives me great pleasure to present this check to the Caribou High School,” stated Corbin. “Paradis Shop ‘N Save is committed to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve and I can’t think of a better way to do so than by investing in our local school,” he added.
“This education grant money is greatly appreciated,” stated Jones. “The funds go into the school principal’s (discretionary) account, allowing me some flexibility within the building, to purchase items for the classrooms that teachers request but aren’t included in our budget. Primarily we have been using the grant money to replace the overhead projectors used in our classrooms with more up-to-date document projectors. ”
Under the terms of the program that ran from Sept. 5 through Dec. 7, shoppers could raise funds for local schools by purchasing participating products. This year, there were more than 900 eligible products including Hannaford brand items and products from partners that included General Mills, Clorox, Heinz, Ocean Spray, Gorton’s, Bush’s Beans, Kellogg’s, Bayer, McCain, New World, Coke, Hershey, Nestle Beverage, Purina, Tyson, Mott’s and Welch’s.
More than 2,700 schools in five states participated in the program, raising more than $650,000 overall. In the 11 years since its inception, the Hannaford Helps Schools Program has raised more than $6.75 million for participating schools.
There was no limit on the amount that could be raised by an individual school. Each of the participating Hannaford stores awarded an additional $1,000 education grant to the one school registered with that store raising the most funds and Caribou High School was Paradis’ education grant winner.
