ST. GEORGE & HOULTON – Janice Marie Brown, 53, loving daughter of Molly and Chester Bailey, died Monday, May 23, 2011 as the result of an automobile accident. She was born March 23, 1957 at Ft. Kent, the adopted daughter of Harry and Molly (Shaw) Brown.
Janice attended Houlton schools and was a 1975 graduate of Houlton High School. She attended Ricker College, then graduated from Salem College in West Virginia. Janice started work with the FA Peabody Company and, in 1993, went to work with Maine DHHS in Child Protection Services, then 18 years in Adoption Services until her untimely death. Janice loved all the families she served, especially all of the children whom she loved dearly and are too many to mention. She enjoyed baking goodies to take to work for all to enjoy, knitting, crocheting, photography, and her flowers.
She is survived by her parents, Molly (Shaw) and Chester Bailey of Houlton; her godchild, Jeremy Tweedie of Mars Hill; aunts and uncles, Charlotte Fleming and Josephine McGuire, both of Houlton, Robert Shaw of Old Town, Pat and Jay Brewer of Blaine, Earl Brown and Pete and Pat Brown, all of CT; several nieces and nephews. Janice also leaves her co-workers who were her family away from home and her beloved dogs. She was predeceased by her father, Harry Brown.
A graveside service will be held at the Houlton Evergreen Cemetery 9 a.m. on June 18, 2011 with Fr. David Raymond, Deacon Al Burleigh and Pastor Philip Herrick officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church Parish Center.
