Fish finder tickets still available

Special to the Star-Herald

Let me start this off on an AWESOME note! We have found a home for the last of our huskies that came to us very sick, after being seized by the state.

Ice Man went home today, where he will be living with Email! The new owner expects them to be running in the Can-Am races next year. I sure hope she enjoys them; they are awesome dogs, deserving of love and lots to TLC. These dogs will be doing what they were bred to do, pull a sled and race; we are told that they really enjoy that. This makes all of us here at the Central Aroostook Humane Society very happy. These dogs had never been house dogs, not housebroken, their job or life’s work has been as a dogsled team, and it would be very difficult at this point in their lives to rehab them into being house pets. That being said, mushers for the most part take very good care of their dogs; it is a labor of love. This is an expensive sport, taking a lot of time, money and dedication. Enjoy your new lives pups!! We were glad to be a part of your journey.

The Webelos for Pack 171 of Presque Isle visited the Central Aroostook Humane Society on Saturday, Feb. 26, for their Citizenship pin. The boys had a good time playing with all the puppies at the shelter. The shelter has many cats, dogs, puppies and rabbits up for adoption. The boys visiting the shelter included in front from left: Garrett Morneault, Mason Young and Webelo Two Gage Young. In back: Colton Harding, Boy Scout David Cyr and Trace Cyr.

Alright all you fishermen out there, the Central Aroostook Humane Society is selling tickets on a brand NEW Bottom Line Fishin’ Buddy 4200. This is an amazing fish finder, brand new, not even out of the box yet. This has an easy-to-read display, mounts anywhere, side finding, spots fish around the boat, 240 depth range, digital surface temp, 30-hour batteries, ice fishing mode. It really is a nice fish finder. We will be selling only 100 tickets. Tickets are on sale now at the shelter for $5 each, so buy your tickets now. A ticket on the chance to win this item would make a great Father’s Day gift, so get your ticket today!

Flea season is coming — is your pet ready? Fleas are a horrible nuisance and it is our job as responsible pet owners to protect our animals from them. A dog or cat with fleas can infest your whole house; it is much easier to prevent an infestation than to fight one. Talk to your veterinarian today about flea preventatives, the good stuff is well worth the money!

Join us for a Kick-Off Party on Thursday, June 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to celebrate the upcoming Paws for the Cause Walk. Our auxiliary group, the Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society, is hosting this fun event at Freddy P’s in downtown Presque Isle. It’s a great chance to learn more about the upcoming fund-raising walk while having a good time for a good cause.

The Paws for the Cause Walk is our biggest fundraiser of the year  It is a two-mile walk to benefit the animals at the shelter. If you need a pledge sheet or would like a flier, check us out on Facebook or on our website: www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org.

We are issuing a “Team Challenge” to local businesses and groups in hopes of adding a new element to an already fun event. If you aren’t familiar with our annual Paws for the Cause event, it is a two-mile group walk — adults, kids and dogs — followed by a cookout, prizes, dog wash and more! The donations raised by the walkers help support the shelter and provide funds to care for the County’s dogs, cats and bunnies in need.

To take part in the “Team Challenge,” simply get together a group of employees, co-workers or organization members and give yourself a fun team name. Enclosed is a copy of the registration form that each team member should fill out and use to collect pledges/donations. On the day of the walk, your team’s total will be tallied while you have fun out on the course, and the winning team will receive a prize.

This year’s walk will be held — rain or shine — on June 18 at 9 a.m. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. at the shelter (26 Cross St., Presque Isle). We ask that all pledges/donations are submitted at registration along with each team member’s registration form.

If you are looking for a friend for life, please visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society or give us a call at 764-3441.

Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
