Summaries of recently-played games are as follows:
VFW 12, Police 11
Jerred Morrow’s single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning scored his brother Jacob for the game-winning run as VFW edged Police.
Matt Nadeau and Evan Desmond did the pitching and also led the winning offense with two hits each. Katie Clark scored a pair of runs.
Tyler Dombroski had three hits and four RBIs, while Seth Long went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Police squad.
Sleepers 19,
Woodland Tigers 0
Camden Huck pitched 4-2/3 innings and struck out 10 batters, while Spenser McDuffie came on in relief and fanned four for the save as Sleepers blanked the Tigers.
Offensively the highlight of the night for Sleepers was Jay Belanger’s first Little League hit in his first at bat. Sleepers was led by Mason Huck, who homered, tripled and doubled and drove in five runs. Camden Huck and Alec Cyr both went 3 for 4.
The Tigers were led defensively by a double play turned in by Liza Durette and Adrianna Bither.
Shop ‘n Save 12,
Woodland Eagles 2
Shop ‘n Save was steady offensively and got solid pitching in the win at Woodland.
Ben Ezzy had three hits, including a double, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Caleb Brown and Evan Burgay both had doubles and Kerrigan Manter and Parker Deprey both had singles.
The Ezzy brothers handled the pitching duties, with Ben and Alex combining for 13 strikeouts.
Hunter Milliard had a triple and Scott Bray an RBI single to pace the Eagles at the plate. Pitcher Caleb Trombley made a great catch on a line drive to key the Woodland defense.
S. W. Collins 2,
Savings Bank of Maine 0
Tyler Wright’s triple scored his brother Tyler for a key run as S.W. Collins edged SBM in a pitcher’s duel.
Donovan Savage struck out 15 batters and surrendered just four hits without allowing a walk to earn the pitching win, while Caleb Willett went the distance for SBM with a one-hitter. He struck out 16 in the contest.
Andrew Geer, Dagan Savage, Nick Allen and Gabe Massey turned in fine defensive efforts for Collins.
Jacob Burby doubled and Jaelynn Doody was solid in the field for SBM.
Shop ‘n Save 15, VFW 5
Shop ‘n Save built a 6-0 advantage after the first inning of play and used three hits off the bat of Ben Ezzy to defeat VFW.
Caleb Brown and Trey Taylor both had two hits, while Carter Conley, Tristan Mancos, Kerrigan Manter and Alex Ezzy also had run-scoring hits for the winners.
Jerred Morrow and Zach Whitten both had a single and a double, with Whitten driving in two runs for VFW. Austin Brown and Matt Nadeau also had RBI singles for VFW.
S.W. Collins 18, VFW 2
A nine-run second inning powered S.W. Collins to the win over VFW.
Andrew Geer went 3 for 4 with two triples and a double with three runs scored and three RBIs to lead Collins at the plate. Nick Allen also posted a big game with three hits, including a double and a triple. Zach Wright went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and five RBIs, Donovan Savage and Gabe Massey combined for six hits and Tyler Wright went 3 for 4 with two doubles and Cory Jandreau tripled as part of the offensive explosion.
Zach Wright, Tyler Wright, Massey and Dagan Savage combined on the pitching duties for Collins.
Zach Whitten went 2 for 3 and Josh Cummings made three brilliant plays in the field for VFW.
VFW 12, Shop ‘n Save 7
VFW put five runs on the board in the fifth inning to break a tie and give them the victory.
Jerred Morrow ripped a pair of triples and four RBIs, while Matt Nadeau and Zach Whitten banged out doubles for the winners.
Ben Ezzy hit a pair of inside-the-park home runs to spark Shop ‘n Save at the plate. Caleb Brown had two hits.
Morrow combined with Evan Desmond for the pitching victory.
Sleepers 7, North Stars 0
After suffering a pair of tough losses the Sleepers team needed a stopper and that is just the effort they got from Spenser McDuffie, who struck out 12 batters while facing just one batter over the minimum in the complete-game effort.
Alec Cyr at shortstop and Emma Belyea at second base were solid defensively for the victors. Offensively, Sleepers was led by Camden Huck, who was 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored.
For the North Stars, Noah Hixon came on in relief of Josh Quist and limited Sleepers with 3-1/3 scoreless innings. Kendra Furber relieved Hixon in the bottom of the fifth inning and got a key strikeout and induced a fly ball out.
