Relay for Life on Friday

On Friday, June 3, the Aroostook County’s Relay For Life will begin at 6 p.m. at the Caribou High School athletic track. The Survivors Lap will kick off the event, as cancer survivors join together unified, in victory and  in hope, as the rest of the event’s participants surround the track cheering them on. Anyone who is a cancer survivor is invited to join in this celebration.

A special Luminaria Ceremony will begin at 10 p.m., remembering those who lost their battle with cancer and honoring those who have survived. Anyone wishing to purchase a luminaria may do so by visiting the registration table at the event; they are $10 each.

Those wanting to be a part of helping others “celebrating more birthdays” are encouraged to come to the event on Friday evening.

The Aroostook Republican would like correct several misstatements stated in an article regarding the Aroostook Relay for Life in last week’s edition. It was erroneously stated that $147,000 was raised at the 2010 event when the correct net amount was $123,000. The May 25 article also stated that 66 teams participated; the actual number was 61; and it was printed that the Aroostook Relay for Life event was first in both growth and in funds raised; the correct information is that it was first in percentage of growth of the event. The Aroostook Republican regrets these incorrect statements and any confusion they may have caused.
