McGill’s Community Band to hold first concert of the season June 16
With summer kicking into high gear, the month of June has a bundle of activities and entertaining events scheduled in southern Aroostook County.
“June starts our whole big push of summer festivals and entertainment,” said Lori Weston, executive director for the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce.
A “Third Thursday and Community Arts Festival” is scheduled for June 16 in Houlton. It marks the first year that the chamber has scheduled such an event to kick off the summer season. The fair happens from 4-7 p.m. and features community arts projects, a puppet show at the Houlton Recreation Center, artist demonstrations and food booths.
“We’ll be blocking off Main Street from Broadway Street to the beginning of Market Square,” Weston said. “A lot of our downtown businesses will stay open that night, so there will be something for everyone.”
For those looking for an evening of relaxation and good music, check out McGill’s Community Band, which kicks off its season of music on June 16, in conjunction with the Third Thursday event, at 7p.m. Concerts are held every Thursday (weather permitting) through Aug. 18 at the Houlton Amphitheatre located at Houlton Community Park.
