NMCC to offer bartending training

PRESQUE ISLE — Northern Maine Community College is offering a course designed to train students to become skilled professional bartenders. The 36-hour Professional Bartending and Mixology course concentrates on theory and practical hands-on training that emphasizes practice and speed building.

Each student in the course will be taught all of the fundamentals of bartending — different types of glassware, the tools of the bar, how to pour and mix drinks correctly, how to effectively handle every type of patron, as well as over 100 drink recipes including the glassware and garnishes they deserve. In addition, students will learn their legal rights, responsibilities and liabilities of a professional server of alcohol.

Upon successful completion of course requirements, students will be awarded a certificate. The completion certificate from NMCC shows prospective employers that the student has been provided the training essential to becoming a competent, professional, legal and safe bartender.

The course is being offered in a condensed three-week format from June 4-25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $350 which includes text and bar kit. For more information or to register, call the continuing education division at 768-2849.
