May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month

Foster parents are the lifelines of the child welfare system. They are called on to care for some of the neediest children in the state. Foster parents are asked to feed, clothe, shelter, teach, nurture and love children who come into their homes. The plan is that it only be temporary – until the child’s own parents or relatives are able to have their children returned.
A foster parent’s dedication, selflessness and commitment to Maine’s foster children make our state a better place to live. Foster parents know the rewards of caring for foster children by watching them progress and grow. Anyone who works with or for the child welfare system is very grateful for foster parents’ special contributions to care for abused and neglected children.
In honor of Foster Parent Appreciation Month, we salute foster parents. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their daily efforts and their commitment to Maine’s needy children and their families. This appreciation is not reserved for one month, but rather it exists each day of the year. Thank you!
