We need your unfolded/folded papers! All papers that have been donated to CAHS have been either used or folded. If you receive newspapers, when you are done, please box up your clean, dry papers and drop them by the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We use them to make our job of cleaning cat cages a bit easier and to give the cats something to lie on besides the cold metal. Any donation of newspapers is greatly appreciated!!

Don’t forget, the Central Aroostook Humane Society will be in Caribou for the City Wide Yard Sale on May 21. We will be at 5 Franklin Street, so stop by and take a look at the goodies we have for sale. If you have any gently-used items you would like to donate, you can drop them off at 26 Cross Street, Presque Isle, which is the shelter address. We are working hard at raising money to help the animals in our care. Any donations of gently-used items are appreciated.

Don’t miss out! Just in time for Father’s Day, we are selling tickets on an amazing raffle item for Father’s Day: a brand new, never out of the package, BOTTOM LINE FISHIN’ BUDDY 4200 fish finder. We will only be selling 100 tickets, so your chances of winning are really good. Get your tickets now at the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St. Presque Isle. We will draw a winner once all the tickets are sold. Tickets are on sale now for $5 each, so get yours now. This is a great opportunity, so don’t let it pass you by.

The skunks are out! I have gotten a couple of calls so far asking for the “recipe” to get the smell of skunk off their dog. Knock on wood, none of my own dogs have found the lovely black and white “kitties” yet, but I am sure it will happen sooner or later. I have my ingredients here and ready to go. I mix this in a milk jug; this is something you cannot store, or it will explode.

Get your pup nice and wet, mix the following ingredients, work well into their coat and down to the skin. I let it sit for a bit — at least 10 minutes — while I work it and then rinse. Sometimes I do follow with a regular dog shampoo. The recipe is as follows:

• 1 quart hydrogen peroxide;

• 1/4 cup baking soda; and

• 3 Tablespoons dish soap.

Use immediately and do not store.

If you are looking for a friend for life, please visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We have many animals available for adoption. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, or give us a call at 764-3441. If you would like to make a donation, you can go to our website at www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org  and hit the “donate” button.

Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
