“Dust the bike off night”

May is National Bike Month, in celebration of this, the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is offering a “Dust the Bike off Night” Wednesday, May 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. as part of Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You Program.

This program is intended for beginners to intermediate riders who are looking to prolong the life of their bike and get the most out of their rides. Participants will be eligible to win a bike pump and helmet. Call 493-4224 for more information.

Pitch, Hit and Run in Caribou, Limestone

The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will host a local Pitch, Hit and Run Competition for boys and girls in the following age divisions: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. This competition will be held Saturday, May 7 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Caribou Little League fields. Pre-registration is requested, but registrations will be accepted the day of the competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. Call 493-4224 for more information.

The competition in Limestone will take place May 14 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Albert E. Michaud Park. Call 325-4791 for more information.

Fitness walking in Limestone

Join the Limestone Parks and Recreation Department after school for fitness walking on the town’s safe walking paths. This is being offered to K-12 students in the Limestone school system. Times are Mondays, 2:30-3:30 p.m.; Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.; and Thursdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

In the event of rain, walking will be done inside the school. The two people who walk the furthest until the end of the school year will win a prize. Call 325-4791 or 551-1204 to sign up.

13-15 year-old baseball

Application forms are now available for the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s 13-15 year old summer baseball program. To be eligible, players must be 13 years of age before May 1, 2011 and not reach age 16 before May 1, 2011.

A player who played last season and any new player must register each year to be eligible to play. All first-year players must also bring a copy of their birth certificate. There is a registration fee of $25 for each player in the league. Applications must be completed and returned with the fee by June 3.

Registration forms may be picked up at the Caribou Recreation Department. For further information, call 493-4224.

16-18 year-old baseball

Application forms are now available for the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s 16-18 year old summer baseball program. To be eligible, players must be 16 years of age before May 1, 2011 and not reach age 19 before May 1, 2011.

All players must also bring a copy of their birth certificate. There is a registration fee of $25 for each player in the league. Applications must be completed and returned with the fee by June 3. UMPI’s Disc Sports Club to host dodgeball tournament

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Disc Sports Club invites the campus and community to participate in the inaugural National Amateur Dodgeball Association [NADA] Dodgeball Tournament from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 in Weiden Gymnasium.

Each team of six players will be asked to pay a registration fee of $40 and for every extra member, teams will be asked to pay an additional $5. Teams may have up to 10 players on their team.

Team captains must attend a captain’s meeting at noon and the tournament will be round-robin style until brackets are set after the round-robin period is over. Each game will be three minutes in duration and all team members must complete the appropriate forms and sign a safety waiver prior to competing.
