Panther girls are offensive machine

The Central Aroostook Panthers are making it look easy early in the season.

CA won its first two games by a combined score of 46-8. The first win came by a 15-7 final in Dyer Brook over Southern Aroostook, and the second took place Thursday as the Panthers overwhelmed visiting Fort Fairfield, 31-1.

Paige Garrison had four RBIs on a triple and two singles, while Whitney Klein had three hits and four RBIs as the Panthers scored 17 runs in the first inning en route to the lopsided win.

Vicki McIntyre, Michaela King and Page Fletcher were other key offensive cogs for CA.

In other softball action last week, the Presque Isle girls were beaten in a pair of competitive contests played in Bar Harbor against MDI Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans earned the sweep by winning the first game, 7-2, and the second, 5-2.

Presque Isle struggled to generate offense throughou the day managing a total of five hits in the 14 innings of play.

Alecia Palmer had two of her team’s three hits in the game one defeat. Palmer also took the loss on the mound.

In the second game, Courtney Colligan and Palmer had the lone hits for the Wildcats. Colligan was the hard-luck loser on the mound, surrendering just seven hits over seven innings of work.

Ashland scored a one-run win over Fort Fairfield last Tuesday behind five RBIs off the bat of Brooke LaBelle.

A three-run homer and two-run single by LaBelle allowed the host Hornets to sneak away with the decision.

Anna Paradis added two hits and Whitney Donovan gained the pitching win.

Rebekah Pelkey and Sydney Churchill were repeat hitters for Fort Fairfield.

On Saturday, Ashland was beaten by Limestone-MSSM by a score of 19-7.

The host Eagles scored nine times in the first inning to cruise to the win and stay undefeated.

Paradis had three hits for Ashland in the loss. Donovan added a pair of doubles.

Washburn lost its only game, dropping a 15-6 decision to East Grand.

The Vikings trailed 3-0 before exploding for seven runs in the second to take the lead for good.

Amanda Libby had three singles and Kristi Sperrey and Nicole Olson had two hits each for the Beavers.
