Dodgeball tourney at Wieden is Sunday
UMPI’s Disc Sports Club to host dodgeball tournament
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Disc Sports Club invites the campus and community to participate in the inaugural National Amateur Dodgeball Association [NADA] Dodgeball Tournament from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 in Weiden Gymnasium.
Each team of six players will be asked to pay a registration fee of $40 and for every extra member, teams will be asked to pay an additional $5. Teams may have up to 10 players on their team.
Team captains must attend a captain’s meeting at noon and the tournament will be round-robin style until brackets are set after the round-robin period is over. Each game will be three minutes in duration and all team members must complete the appropriate forms and sign a safety waiver prior to competing. Those under 18 years of age will need a guardian’s signature.

UMPI players recognized
University of Maine at Presque Isle athletes Krista Coffin, Danielle Humphrey and Carlos Villoria were honored by the Sunrise Conference for their play on the field for the week of April 11-18.
Coffin, a freshman pitcher from Presque Isle, earned three conference softball victories on the mound over the weekend. She shut out Vermont Technical College twice, tossing a no-hitter with five strikeouts in a 13-0 win April 16 and striking out seven batters and allowed just one hit in a 12-0 win April 17. In five games, including two against the University of Maine at Farmington, Coffin gave up just 14 hits and five earned runs, while finishing with 21 strikeouts.
Humphrey, a senior catcher from New Gloucester, was named player of the week after accumulating a batting average of .476 during her team’s 4-2 week. She collected 10 hits and 14 RBIs in a four-game sweep of Vermont Technical College and scored six runs with three doubles and a two-run homer.
Villoria, a sophomore first baseman from Caracas, Venezuela, shared baseball player of the week honors after batting .455 for the Owls, who went 3-3 during the week. Villoria went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs in a 12-6 win over UM-Farmington. He also had four hits, two runs and two RBIs in a 10-5 win over Vermont Technical College on Saturday afternoon. Overall, he went 10 for 22 with three doubles, six runs and four RBIs in the six games.
Villoria’s effort also earned him NCAA Association of Division III Independents player of the week honors.
