HOULTON — Joshua Bickford received the CTE (Career and Technical Education) Student of the Year award from Congressman Michaud and Don Cannan at an awards ceremony in Lewiston on Saturday April, 30. Bickford was also a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship.
Upon graduation, he will attend Universal Technical Institution in Norwood, Mass. to expand his education into diesel mechanics in their Auto\Diesel program. He leaves for UTI in August, 2011 and he cannot wait to build on the knowledge that he has already gained at Region Two.

“He has used his time at Region Two to gain knowledge and experience working on vehicles and learning the automotive industry,” said Mike Howard, director at Region 2. “Josh puts in extra time and attended CTE class every day to work on his truck and help others, both in his class as well as in our other Automotive Technology class. While at Region Two, Josh achieved 3 college credits in safety from NMCC which includes a 30 hour OSHA card from the Department of Labor. He was also certified in CPR\First Aid and Fire Safety through Region Two. Josh was one of two students from Houlton to participate in the Ford\AAA auto skills testing.”
Outside of CTE class, Bickford has taken four years of welding class at his sending school. He was a member of the Houlton High School band, where he played the trumpet. In his spare time he is restoring a classic pick-up truck. Josh has a part-time job at Burger King and is an active member of Hot Shots; a national on-call forest fire-fighting Group. Friendship, compassion, values, and integrity are attributes that best describe Josh Bickford.
He is the son of Angela and Kent Bickford.
