On Monday in Caribou, the Houlton High School tennis teams came away with a split, as the boys won, 4-1 and the girls lost 5-0.
The boys team is currently ranked first in Class C, with an undefeated 6-0 season, while the girls look for their first win.
In girls singles, Houlton’s Kelsey Fitzpatrick lost 8-0 to Jenna Selander, while Houlton’s Megan Gerath took an 8-2 decision over Laura Collins, and Caribou’s Cassandra Theriault won by forfeit. In doubles, Houlton’s Daisy Torres/Courtney Bragan fell 8-0 to Katie Keaton/Ashley Richards, while Houlton partners, Lizzy Garcia/Danielle Daigle were defeated 8-0 by Alexa Massey/Aly Michaud.
In boy’s singles, Zach Harvey of Houlton was a 9-7 winner over Ezra Duplissie-Cyr, while the Shires’ Lucas Anderson defeated Matt Coty, 8-3 and Houlton’s Tyler Delano lost to Phil Smith, 8-4.
In doubles, Houlton’s Cody Woods/Craig Thomas defeated Lucien Caverhill/Tyler Willey, 8-5 and Shires teammates, Avery Kibler/Josh Sullivan topped Zac Gorence/Cameron Hill, 8-2.
On Friday, the Houlton boys beat Madawaska in a double match, 5-0 and 5-0.
In the matches, it was Anderson over Matt Deschenes, 8-5 and 8-4 ; Delano over Ian Lee, 8-0 and 8-0 and Woods over Jake Gendreau, 8-2 and 8-6.
In doubles play, Thomas/D.J. McGary topped Greg Faucher/Jesse Pelletier, 8-4 and 8-6, while Kibler/Sullivan defeated Aaron Thibeault/Michael Wong, 8-0 and Ethan Nickerson/Jordan Russell overtook Thibeault/Wong, 8-3,
In girls play, Gerath fell to Emily Collins in both matches, 8-2 and 8-0; Bragan lost to Meagan Ouellette, 8-3 and 8-1 and Garcia was overtaken by Sarah Ringuette, 8-0 and 8-1.
In doubles, Madawaska won by forfeit.
Last Tuesday at the University of Maine Presque Isle, the Houlton boys topped Fort Kent in a double match, 5-0 and 5-0.
Harvey defeated Isaac Mitchell 8-1 and 8-3; Anderson outplayed Alex Charette 8-3 and 8-4, while Delano topped Logan Doak 8-5 and 8-6.
In doubles, Thomas/Woods defeated Lucas Woodward/Alex Chasse 8-0 and 8-1, while McGary/Kibler topped Sam Albert/Lance Jandreau 8-0 and 8-1.
In girls’ action, Fort Kent won 5-0 and 5-0.
In singles, Becca Martin won over Gerath 8-3 and 8-3; Carissa Pelletier bested Bragan 8-0 and 8-0, while Fort Kent’s Roxy Pelletier and Abby Stevens both won by forfeit.
In doubles action, Stevens/Kiera Caron toppled Garcia/Daigle 8-0; Pelletier/Caron won over Garcia/Daigle, 8-1.
The Fort Kent girls Lauren Doak/Savannah Paradis and Ameila Guimond/Paradis each won by forfeit.
