WASHBURN NEWS
by Tomi Henderson
The August Festival Committee hosted a bean supper on April 16 to commemorate the 150th birthday of the town of Washburn. Steve Boddy made a special 150th birthday cake, complete with a beaver (the school mascot), a snowmobile and a basketball in honor of our Lady Beavers’ basketball team that won the Class D State Championship this year. Many thanks to all that attended, and especially those who contributed to the meal by donating food and everything else that was needed.
Special thanks to the Washburn Trailrunners for the use of their facility — they are very generous with the various public, school and civic groups in Washburn, allowing them to use their building for fundraisers and meetings, and it is appreciated!
The next meeting of the Washburn August Festival Committee will be on May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center . Many hands are needed to have a successful festival, and interested volunteers are always welcome.
150th anniversary book
The committee working on the book for the Sesquecentennial is greatly in need of pictures of events and people we could use in the book. We could use both old and newer ones: Farming pictures and of people working in the potato plants, events, parades, the swimming pool or anything else you might have. We can scan the pictures and will not damage or lose them.
Also, if anyone has recollections of events that have happened in town or just interesting memories they would share in a few sentences, please consider writing them down and sharing them with us. The deadline for putting this together is rapidly approaching.

Destination Imagination
There are still several fundraisers planned to raise the remaining funds needed for the two teams to go to the Global competitions in Tennessee in May. The teams will leave on May 23 for the competitions being held May 25-28. They have currently raised around 60 percent of the funds needed for the trip.
May fundraisers include baked goods sales, a spaghetti supper/auction on Friday, May 6 (supper 5 to 6:30 p.m., with auction at 6:30 p.m., a Duck Tape Ball at Limestone Community School at 7 p.m. (a combined fundraiser with the Limestone team that is also going to the competition) and a breakfast at the Trailrunners Clubhouse on May 21 from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Contact Tracy Reed to ordering baked goods.
