Adventure Race slated

    DANFORTH — The 2011 East Grand Adventure Race for teens and adults will be held Saturday, May 14. Beginning on Stetson Mountain Wind Farm and ending on the Baskahegan Stream in Danforth, the Adventure Race is hosted by the East Grand High School Outdoor Education Program and sponsored in part by Ski Rack Sports of Bangor and First Wind.
    “This is the sixth adventure race with 63 competing  last year,” said Dave Conley, race coordinator “While the race will be physically challenging, it is not beyond the reach of those who are in reasonably good physical condition.”

sp-Adventure Race-dcx-pt-17GETTING READY — Last year, several teams prepared for the East Grand Adventure Race, getting directions and scouting out the course. The Adventure Race for teens and adults will be held Saturday, May 14. Beginning on Stetson Mountain Wind Farm and ending on the Baskahegan Stream in Danforth.

    This 20-mile race includes an off-trail compass run, mountain biking, canoeing and a climbing wall challenge.
    There are eight divisions including High School Boys, Girls, Mixed, Adult Men, Women, Mixed, Jr./Sr. and Open (Jr./Sr. minimum age is 13 and must compete with an adult. Open division can be solo, kayakers, race boats, relay team).
    The entry fee is $40 per team (pairs), which includes trophies, t-shirts, lunch and over $1,000 in prizes for youth divisions. The race is designed to get teens and adults outside for some good wholesome physical activity while travelling through rugged and remote eastern Maine wilderness.
