A well deserved thank you

To the editor:
On the night of March 29, an integral piece of our community was facing closure. Yeah, that’s right … our beloved Wellington School. Based on declining enrollment and not enough money in a district budget, the SAD 29 board looked into the possibility of closure and sending our kids to Houlton. For most in our tight knit community, this meant that the world stopped for a few hours until the school board unanimously voted to keep Wellington School open.
But the world just didn’t stop. Community members with different vested interests in such a school made it a priority that evening to be there. Some showed their support by sitting in the audience and being silent, while others stood up and spoke to the board on the behalf of their children, the staff and the unique education they are able to receive at Wellington School.
No matter if you were silent or spoke out, we graciously thank you! It speaks volumes to have a gymnasium full of people who are looking out for the best interests of the children and the school they attend. We appreciate the kind words, the well-researched facts and the time you took out of your busy schedules to join us in the fight.
Words cannot express our gratitude, but we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
