Holmes, Gerald J. Sr., 70, of Madawaska Lake and Caribou, at Bangor, on April 23, 2011. Interment will be in the Riverside Extension Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.

Madawaska Lake and Caribou — Gerald J. Holmes Sr., 70, died April 23, 2011, at Bangor. He was born in Caribou August 15, 1940, the son of the late Herman and Rose (Williams) Holmes. Gerald was employed, during the summer months, as a roofing contractor for Aroostook Roofing as well as Powers Roofing for many years. During the winter months, he was employed by the civil service at Loring Air Force Base as a heater mechanic. He married Charlotte Beckwith March 9, 1957, and was a longtime member of the Caribou Assembly of God.

Surviving in addition to his wife of over 54 years, Charlotte of Madawaska Lake, are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gerald Holmes Jr. of Bangor, Joseph Holmes of Caribou and Randy and Lisa Holmes of McEwen, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law Nadine and Timothy Doody of Woodland; one brother and sister-in-law Delmar and Adessa Holmes of Madawaska Lake; three sisters and two brothers-in-law Margaret Cote of Caribou, Delila and Merrill Anderson and Gloria and Earl Pack all of Caribou; three grandchildren, Gerald Holmes III and Clair and Krystle Doody; one great-grandchild, Marshal Ouellette; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Holmes was predeceased by a son, Robert in 2002; two brothers, Garfield and Elmer Holmes and three sisters, Evelyn Tracy, Roween Tracy and Nadine Holmes.

Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011, from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Tracy, officiating.
