ROCKPORT – Two local Aroostook County administrators and a pair of local media members were recognized during the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association spring conference held at the Samoset Resort April 6-8.

Dwight Hunter, the retired athletic director at Caribou High School who held the position from 1961-2002, was honored with a prestigious Past President’s Ring.

Hunter had received many awards during his tenure, including the the MIAAA Robert J. Lahey Athletic Admininstrator of the Year Award in 1980, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association State Award of Merit in 1993, the National Federation High School Citation in 1997, the MIAAA Past Presidents’ Special Achievement Award in 2002 and the Martin Ryan CMAA-MIAAA Award of Excellence in 2006.

Fort Fairfield’s Timothy Watt was recognized with a pin for 10 years of service as an athletic administrator.

WAGM-TV Sports Director Rene Cloukey and The Star-Herald/Aroostook Republican and News sports reporter Kevin Sjoberg were honored with media awards by the athletic administrators’ state organization.
