Esther Winslow, center, of Van Buren recently placed fifth in the statewide Oratorical contest held at Thomas College, sponsored by the American Legion Department of Maine. Winslow participated in the event as a result of placing first in the 17th District Division Preliminary Contest which was held at the Stockholm American Legion Post 136. Presenting the award to Winslow is Brenda Dearborn, department vice commander and Ken Bouchard, 2nd vice commander.
