The Caribou girls grades 5-6 Aroostook Youth Basketball League travel team won the sportsmanship award while reaching the semifinals of a tournament held in Old Town March 26 and 27. Team members are, in front from left, Ashley Matlock, Gabriella Marquis, Kaitlyn Nadeau and Searra Hebert. Back row, assistant coach Ron Matlock,  Jillian Jandreau, Rachel Soucy, Meg Boone, Maddie Doucette and coach Paul Marquis. The team was sponsored by Dr. Dan Jandreau of Caribou Eyecare.

As part of a community service project, 10-year old Hope Shea of Caribou is collecting new and gently used soccer gear through the United States Soccer Foundation’s Passback Program.

The Passback Program is designed to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all players in all communities. Collected equipment will be redistributed to disadvantaged areas throughout the world. From a small school in Zimbabwe to an after-school program in inner-city New York, Passback gear has found its way to all corners of the globe. Earthquake ravaged areas such as Haiti and Japan are especially in need.

The primary collection point for donations will be The Children’s Closet Consignment Sale at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Caribou April 30 and May 1. Drop-offs may be made between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

For more information, please contact Hope Shea or her parents, Becky and Mark Shea, at 207-498-8424.
