Windham Chamber Singers to perform April 29 in Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — The Windham Chamber Singers will perform a concert on Friday, April 29 at the First Baptist Church on Court Street at 7 p.m.

The Windham Chamber Singers gained international attention in 1996 when they won The Prize of Vienna at the International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria.  Since then they have performed in major concert venues including Carnegie Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the White House. They have also appeared on “CBS This Morning,” The “Today Show” and in their own prime time holiday special, “A Holiday Portrait.”

The Windham Chamber Singers have appeared in concert with artists including Kenny Rogers, Andy Williams, John Rutter, Josh Groban, Jodi Benson, Susan Egan, Noel Paul Stookey, Capathia Jenkins, Sutton Foster and as special guests of the Portland Symphony. They have released three commercial recordings on the Pine Point record label.

Each year, the choir tours the northeast, presenting assemblies and workshops at area schools in addition to public concerts. The Houlton concert will be part of a five-day tour of central and northern Maine. The Windham Chamber Singers are conducted by Dr. Richard Nickerson, a native of Houlton.
