College students Gal and Post
named to All Maine Academic Team
PRESQUE ISLE — Two Northern Maine Community College nursing students are among the 14 students from across the state named to 2011 All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges.

Jessica Gal of Bridgewater and Jonathan Post of Presque Isle were honored March 22 at a ceremony at the Senator Inn in Augusta that was hosted by the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees and attended by Gov. Paul LePage. In addition to the accolades, Gal and Post will each receive a $500 scholarship.
Post was also one of two students to receive a national scholarship. He was named a Coca-Cola All-State Community College Bronze Scholar, which includes a $1,000 scholarship.
The All-Maine Academic Team is part of the national Phi Theta Kappa program, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected for the team by their college based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service. The All-Maine Academic Team program is co-sponsored by Bangor Daily News, Creative Awards of Scarborough, Phi Theta Kappa and the MCCS.
Gal, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, earned a grade point average of 3.7 and has been named to the Dean’s List. She has taken part in a number of community service projects both on and off campus. She has assisted both as a clothing drive helper and flu shot clinic volunteer, participated in the Fall and Winter Expo 2010 at the Presque Isle Forum, and volunteered for campus clean-up. Aside from being an outstanding student, Gal serves her peers and NMCC as Student Nurses Association secretary, gift tree coordinator and Academic Success Center tutor.
Post, president of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, has achieved a perfect grade point average of 4.0, earning recognition as a President’s Scholar. He has also been named to the Dean’s List for NMCC. A member of the Student Nurses Association, Post serves as a volunteer for a number of organizations including the Pregnancy Care Center, Walk for Life, Carol Makenna Thanksgiving Outreach, and activities with his local church. Post has participated in a variety of campus events including the annual Holiday Light Parade, Spring Flower Sale Fundraiser and campus clean-up.
