WASHBURN, Maine — Jeff Wark was honored during Washburn’s annual town meeting March 22, after serving 12 years on the Town Council.
Council Chair Mike Umphrey described Wark as “conservative, truthful and trustworthy.”
“Councilman Kermit Fuller (who was not present at the meeting) might add ‘cheap’ to the list. Jeff always represented the citizens and spent taxpayer money accordingly. He gave thorough consideration to money spent by the town. He represented you well,” said Umphrey, as he called Wark from the crowd to accept a plaque in recognition of his dozen years as a representative of the town and its citizens.
Umphrey noted that several Council meetings might have ended a lot sooner, had it not been for Wark’s dedication to watching every penny the town spent.
“He made sure money was spent wisely,” said Umphrey.
Churchill
During the meeting it was also announced that Fred Thomas, who ran unopposed, had retained his seat on the Council during the previous night’s election. Darren Churchill was elected to fill the seat left vacant by Wark’s departure.
Several vacancies remained open on the SAD 45 School Board, according to Town Manager Bev Turner, due to receiving a number of write-ins.
“We have to contact each person and find out if they’re interested in the position or not, before we’ll know for sure how many vacancies we still have,” said Turner.
