Owl players sweep Sunrise honors
Four University of Maine at Presque Isle spring athletes were recognized recently for their accomplishments on the diamond.
Tuck was named softball player of the week, Krista Coffin softball pitcher of the week, Andrew Carter baseball player of the week and Jordan Perry baseball pitcher of the week by the Sunrise Conference for the week ending March 21.
Carolynn Tuck,
a junior from Brewer, batted .600 in two games including a 3-for-3 day in a 6-5 win over Maine Maritime Academy.
The outfielder ripped a pair of doubles and drove in two runs in leading the Owls to the victory.
Krista Coffin,
a freshman from Presque Isle, earned the pitching award by allowing just four earned runs and two walks in eight solid innings for her second win of the season in a 6-5 triumph over Maine Maritime Academy.
Andrew Carter
batted .625 for the Owl baseball team.
The freshman pitcher/designated hitter from Charlo, New Brunswick went 2 for 4 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base in a 19-0 victory over Penn State-Worthington – the Owls’ first of the season. Carter also collected three hits and scored a run in a 6-3 loss to King’s College.
Jordan Perry,
a freshman from Baileyville, had a dominating performance in the shutout win over Penn State Worthington.
He struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit and two walks in seven innings to earn his first career victory.
