1936: Forrest S. Tibbetts purchases Sweden Street building

100 YEARS AGO: March 30, 1911

• A.A. Garden is now manager of the P. of H. Opera House and anyone desiring to arrange dates for shows, entertainments, etc. should address or communicate with him.

• Miss Marguerite Smith has entered the millinery store of Mrs. E. P. Wilkins and will learn the millinery business.

• The potato market is a little firmer this week, the price today being $1 to $1.10 per barrel.

• The marriage will take place tonight at the home of the bride’s father, George Young, of his daughter Beatrice G. Young and Archie L. Montieth. The ceremony will be performed by Rev. R. W. Ferguson, pastor of the Free Baptist Church.

• Mrs. Louise B. Spaudling entertained the Ladies’ Bridge Whist Club Friday afternoon last. A delicious six o’clock supper was served.

75 years ago: March 26, 1936

• The building on Sweden Street, nearly opposite the foot of Prospect Street, known as the Northern Star-Flint Corporation building, was purchased this week by Forrest S. Tibbetts. Extensive repairs and changes will be made and as soon as they are completed the building will be occupied by Mr. Tibbetts and his automobile and accessories business.

• Norman Dixon of Stockholm, was a passenger on Saturday morning’s train for Caribou.

• The first wagons in use for 1936 were on March 20, but trucks were used before that date. Albert L. Anderson of Stockholm, was the first to use his auto on Saturday and Fred Louzier, the station agent, had his out Sunday.

• Thomas Vose is carrying out his editorial training, which began on the Caribou High School Arcturus, at Ricker Junior College, where he is editor for the Ricker News, the school newspaper.

• Delmer Brown of Limestone, has purchased a new Chevrolet coupe.
