Contributed photo/Michael ClarkLorraine Monfils, president of The Ark Animal Sanctuary in Houlton, was guest speaker recently at the Houlton Rotary Club. The Ark is a no-kill sanctuary and is a 501C3 Non Profit Organization. It is run solely by volunteers. The Ark Sanctuary’s mission is to rescue and provide food, shelter, medical assistance, love and compassion to any animal regardless of age and/or medical condition. Monfils spoke of future plans for the Ark, which will possibly include a fenced in dog park, a road in which joggers and walkers may exercise, picnic areas and bunk houses for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to come and stay and learn the importance of responsible pet ownership. This will all take place on the 37 acres of land on the Old Woodstock Road purchased by the Sanctuary. Pictured from left are Scott White, Rotary president; Monfils and Jerry Wilson, Rotarian.
