Rain doesn’t deter female skiers

A little rain couldn’t stop women from enjoying their time at the Aroostook Women’s Ski Day held at the Nordic Heritage Center on March 6. More than 30 participants braved the weather, strapped on their equipment, and got out to enjoy a day of skiing and snowshoeing, then headed inside for a little pampering, too.

A fundraiser for the Hope and Justice Project, formerly known as the Battered Women’s Project, the event celebrated its fifth year earlier this month, despite a rainy weekend. Participants of all ages and abilities enjoyed a morning wake up with an energetic Zumba class to get the blood flowing, followed by a morning yoga class along with seminars on the snow including ski and snowshoe clinics. Everyone dried off over a hot lunch, homemade treats and door prizes. The day also included afternoon clinics on snow, healthy lifestyles discussions, more yoga and massages for all.

The day would not have been possible without all of the volunteers who donated their time to make this event a success. In addition to the volunteers, the Nordic Heritage Sport Club wishes to thank all the committed sponsors of the event.

From the comments overheard and the smiles on the faces of participants and volunteers alike, it’s safe to say that the day was a huge success. Mark your calendars, next year the event will return to the traditional date of Super Bowl Sunday.
