Pat Conray once said, “Without music, life is journey through a desert.”  Students should be allowed to listen to music during study halls.  Listening to music helps me concentrate, and if it helps me, it might help others.  Kids are more productive while listening to music.  Also, if students use earphones it would be quieter and less distracting to teachers and students.
Listening to an ipod will help kids concentrate.  It also helps them get their work done.  Studies have proven that it alters your mood.  If kids are happier, they will be more willing to do their schoolwork.
Students could be more productive while enjoying music.  Lots of kids think that they should be able to listen to their music.  Many feel it helps them focus better.  Teacher Elona Hartjes said, “One reason is because music acts like white noise in the background preventing students from noticing every other noise that usually distracts them.”  Hartes also said that she would not want her students listening to music during a class or instructions or when they have a discussion.  They need to be paying attention.  There is no confusion there.
Some teachers believe students would be distracted if they listen to music.  It actually will help them get their work done by keeping them focused and less bothered by outside noises.  Rules need to be set about when and where kids can listen to music.  Students must listen to music only when permitted and not during class or instruction.
Students should be allowed to listen to music in school.  They will be more productive and willing to do their schoolwork.  Kids also have better moods while listening to music, and who doesn’t want that?  Music would be a positive addition the students’ school day.
