Project Learning Tree offers outdoor learning teacher workshops Saturday

There will be a Project Learning Tree pre-k to grade 12 workshop for teachers, college students, community leaders and natural resource professionals on Saturday, March 19, at Houlton High School Library from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Interested individuals can learn how to deliver outdoor learning opportunities for students through the Bird Farm’s Outdoor Classroom, a maple sugar house for students, winter tree identification and more. The class will get outdoors on snowshoes (bring your own if possible) weather permitting,  to experience hands on tree studies.
Dan Jacobs, regional forester with the Maine Forest Service; Janet Perry, high school teacher and PLT facilitator; and Pat Maloney, PLT coordinator, will deliver the workshop.
Morning snacks and hot drinks will be served, but please bring your lunch. The PLT curriculum is aligned with state and national standards in all content areas.
Six contact hours provided and participants will receive the 2011 PreK-8 Project Learning Tree Activity Guide plus the Forest Ecology High School guide. Cost is $35/professionals; $25/college students. Please call Pat Maloney to register at 626-7990 or email meplt@gwi.net.
