SALISBURY, N.C. — Rene Cloukey, the sports director at WAGM-TV in Presque Isle, is the 2010 Maine Sportscaster of the Year. The announcement was made recently by National Sportscaster and Sportswriter Association Executive Director Dave Goren. Cloukey has now won the award five times.
He shares this year’s award with Jim Churchill, of the Maine Black Bear Sports Network, who won for the first time. Pete Warner of the Bangor Daily News claimed the Maine Sportswriter of the Year honor.
Longtime play-by-play announcers Brent Musburger, Bob Uecker and Bob Ryan, a 42-year veteran of the Boston Globe, have been voted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame and the three will be enshrined May 16.
Joining Musburger, Uecker and Ryan will be National Sportscaster of the Year Mike Tirico of ABC and ESPN, and 2010 National Sportswriter of the Year Peter King of Sports Illustrated.
In addition, 110 State Sportscasters and Sportswriters of the Year from 49 states and the District of Columbia will be honored during the NSSA’s 52nd annual Awards Weekend, to be held May 14-16.
