The Houlton Junior High School eighth-grade basketball teams were the winners of the 38th annual Southern Aroostook Junior High School Basketball Tournament held in Dyer Brook.
The eighth-grade girls team edged Southern Aroostook in the championship game, 36-34, while the Shire boys raced away from Hodgdon, 58-29 for the title.
The Houlton girls made it to the championship round by defeating Greater Houlton Christian Academy, while the Southern Aroostook girls topped Hodgdon, 35-14. In other action, the GHCA girls defeated Katahdin, 36-24.
The Shire boys made to the championship round by powering past Southern Aroostook, 66-49 and the Hodgdon boys topped GHCA, 43-21. In other action, the Southern Aroostook boys picked up a 33-26 victory over Katahdin.
Named as the Most Valuable Player for the girls tournament was Houlton’s Katie Condon. Making the all-star team were Houlton’s Emily Mooers and Madeline Anderson; GHCA’s Rylee Warman and Southern Aroostook’s Katie Prescott and Lauren Rockwell.
Selected as the Most Valuable Player for the boys tournament was Houlton’s Kyle Bouchard. Chosen as all-star selections were Houlton’s Dan Howe and Jake Drew; Hodgdon’s Devin Quint and Chris Hudson and Southern Aroostook’s Cameron Landry.
