It’s getting down to crunch time for schoolgirl basketball as squads are busy jockeying for key playoff positions. The Maine Principals’ Association Heal Points standings as of Tuesday morning were as follows:

In Eastern Class B, Presque Isle (9-1, 51.3889) was the top-ranked squad in the 19-team region. The top 10 teams in the region qualify for the playoffs.

In Eastern Class D, Washburn (10-1, 39.9165) sat atop the 20-team region. Central Aroostook 10-2, 36.5287) despite losing to Southern Aroostook on Monday, was the No. 2 seed, while Fort Fairfield (7-1, 15.6590) was seventh; Easton (6-5, 9.0886) was 10th; and Ashland (3-7, 1.9281) was 14th. Only the top 10 teams make the playoffs.

The following is a recap of games played through Monday.

Easton 45, East Grand 37 — At Danforth Monday, Ariana Babineau netted 17 points to lift Easton over scrappy East Grand. Carla Halvorson chipped in nine points, while Mindy Desmond added eight; Katie Cyr, five; Sydney Trask, four; and Brook Hammond, two.

Elisha Farley had 17 points for East Grand, while Shaunna Beaudoin added 10.

Easton trailed 11-10 in the first quarter, but took a 21-18 lead into the locker room at the half. The Bears clung to a 30-28 lead after three periods.

Presque Isle 65, Bucksport 42 — At Bucksport Monday, Presque Isle nailed four 3-pointers in a 24-9 third quarter burst to pull away from Bucksport. Chandler Guerrette had three 3-pointers as part of her 25-point effort in the Wildcats’ win. Other PI scorers were Kayla Richards 15 points; Meredith Stewart, eight; Chelsea Nickerson, six; and Karlee Bernier, five.

Shelby Redman had 13 points to pace the Golden Bucks, while Mindy Pye added 12 points.

Presque Isle led 16-15, 24-20 and 48-29 at the quarter breaks.

Southern Aroostook 45, Central Aroostook 38 — At Dyer Brook Monday, Jasmine Rockwell’s 17 points sparked the Warriors past Central Aroostook in a key Heal Point-worthy victory. Shelby Hartin added nine points and 13 rebounds. For CAHS, Vicki McIntyre netted 16 points, while Kayla Cushman added nine.

CAHS led 10-9, 20-16 and 34-32 at the quarter breaks, but the Warriors outscored CAHS 13-4 in the final stanza.

Presque Isle 65, Hermon 51 — At Presque Isle Saturday, Guerrette tossed in 28 points as the Wildcats romped past Hermon. Stewart added 10 points for Presque Isle, while Nickerson chipped in nine and Ireland eight.

Washburn 57, Van Buren 46 — At Van Buren Friday, Rebecca Campbell netted 25 points to lead Washburn over the Crusaders for their 10th win on the season. Carmen Bragg added 16 points, while Nicole Olson added nine; Rayah Saucier, three; and Sarah Sjoberg and Maegan Fitzpatrick, two each.

Parise Rossignol had 22 points for Van Buren, while Ashlie Wilson added 18.

Fort Fairfield 60, Katahdin 32 — At Stacyville Friday, Danielle Tracy tallied 15 points as the Tigers bested Katahdin. Amanda Hotham chipped in 13 points, while Sydney Churchill added 11. Fort Fairfield has now won six straight games.

Megan Merry led Katahdin with 12 points.

Southern Aroostook 47, Easton 38 — At Easton Thursday, Shelby Hartin scored a game-high 19 points to lift Southern Aroostook over Easton. Jasmine Rockwell added 10 for the Warriors. Halvorson led the Bears with 12 points, while Babineau added 11 and Desmond eight.

 

Presque Isle 78, Houlton 22 — At Houlton Thursday, the Wildcats saw four players score in double figures in the lop-sided victory. Stewart and Bernier each tallied 14 points for the Wildcats, while Guerrette added 11 and Richards 10.

Amanda Fogarty paced Houlton with eight points.

Washburn 60, Limestone-MSSM 39 — At Washburn Wednesday, Rebecca Campbell tallied 23 points to lead Washburn. Carsyn Koch and Carmen Bragg each had 11 points in the win, while Sjoberg added eight.

Daniele Pelkey led the Eagles with 10 points.

Ashland 61, Greater Houlton Christian Academy 37 — At Ashland Wednesday, Kayla Cote scored 19 points to lead Ashland over Greater Houlton Christian Academy. Brooke LaBelle added 12 points and four assists for the Hornets and Whitney Donovan chipped in 10 points. Anna Paradis had eight points, eight assists, eight steals and seven rebounds. Rylee Graham added six rebounds and four assists.

Destinee Neureuther led the Eagles with 17 points.

Central Aroostook 48, Easton 40 — At Easton Tuesday, Jan. 11, McIntyre scored 17 points and Kristen Long added 15 as Central Aroostook topped Easton.

Halvorson scored a game-high 21 points for the Bears.
