STANDISH – Dale Stephen Richards, 54, of 19 Dow Road died peacefully at his home on January 13, 2011. He was born in Island Falls on December 17, 1956, a son of Clayton and Nadine White Richards and was educated in Smyrna Mills schools.
As a young man he worked for several years as a lumberman in Aroostook County. He also worked for several more years in the shoe manufacturing business for Herman Shoe in Scarborough and Sebago Moc. in Westbrook. Dale worked for 20 years at the Nichols Co. in Portland. Since “retiring” from there, he has been a self-employed contractor all over the Southern Maine area.
He was very active in the sport of boxing as a younger man, holding an amateur ranking for several years. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed the outdoors and fishing when he found time. Many have enjoyed his wonderful story telling over the years. Above all, Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Time spent with his loving family meant the most to him and to them.
He was predeceased by his father, Clayton Richards.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 30 years, Cheryl Anderson Richards of Standish; his mother, Nadine Richards of Houlton; two sons, Shawn Richards of Gorham, and Ryan Richards and his companion Michelle Marquis of Standish; two daughters, Kim Richards of Dover, NH., and Velvet Bennett and husband Aaron of Guilford; two brothers, Eric Richards and wife Ruth of Patten, and Scotty Richards and wife Nadine of Northport, two sisters, Joanne Cushing of Merrill, and Sharon Anderson of Oakfield; three grandchildren, Elaina, Owen, and Lloyd Bennett all of Guilford; many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his buddy “Milo”.
Visiting hours were on Monday, January 17 at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home in Cornish. A funeral service was at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 18. Burial will be private in the spring.
